Bottom’s Dream by Alan Poole

Everyone knows the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Puck, Oberon and Titania, Bottom with his donkey’s head and the other “rude mechanicals”, and so on – but what of the other characters we never meet? What about the wives who become suspicious about their husbands’ sudden desire for clandestine meetings in the woods, and join forces to find out what they’re up to? This play explores, with its tongue firmly in its cheek, this other side of The Dream. It’s a light comedy, with chunks of the original Dream dialogue thrown in – a wonderful mix of the romantic and the charmingly foolish. And I’ll be hosting a reading of it on Tues 11th August in the Clubhouse at 19.30. And there are 24 characters in it, so it needs a lot of actors, so please join us if you possibly can. It’ll be a lot of fun . . . and we need you!
