Award Success for Abingdon Drama Club's Sganarelle
Abingdon Drama Club is celebrating a fantastic year on the one-act festival circuit, with our production of Sganarelle earning recognition at both the Wallingford One Act Festival and the ODN Festival at the Unicorn Theatre.
Written by the renowned 17th-century French playwright Molière, Sganarelle is a fast-paced comedy of misunderstandings, mistaken identities and romantic confusion. Full of sharp wit, colourful characters and physical humour, the play challenged our cast to deliver precise comic timing while bringing Molière's classic text to life for a modern audience.
The hard work and dedication of everyone involved paid off spectacularly at the Wallingford One Act Festival, where the production received an incredible four awards from eight presented on the evening.
Our awards included:
Best Cameo Performance – John Hawkins
Best Supporting Actor – Sara Phoenix
The Punters' Prize, voted for by the audience
Festival Runners-Up overall
To receive recognition from both the adjudicator and the audience made the evening particularly special, reflecting not only the quality of the performances but also the enjoyment the production brought to those watching.
We are immensely proud of the entire cast and backstage team, whose commitment, enthusiasm and countless hours of rehearsal made this success possible. Competing at both the Wallingford and ODN festivals has been a wonderful experience, and these achievements are a testament to the talent and teamwork within Abingdon Drama Club.
